Atomic Test Image Gallery

I have collected these images, taken during the U.S. nuclear weapons program of the 1950s--1960s, from what I believed were public sources; so, as far as I know, these are all in the public domain. This is not, by any means, an exhaustive gallery of all images related to the nuclear weapons testing program. I share here the images I thought were impressive, evocative, and/or aesthetically appealing.

The full size images in this gallery are 1024x768, many have been scaled (mostly enlarged) and/or placed on a colored canvas. When vertical padding was needed, I tended to pad more on the bottom, since that generally hides behind the taskbar (if you haven’t moved it or set it to auto-hide). These images should scale satisfactorily for any computer desktop with a 4:3 aspect ratio. [Ed. note – I created this image gallery back when Windows XP was new.]

Images are in chronological order. Under each thumbnail below, the program name is on top and the test name is on the bottom. Date of test and a link to more information about the test are provided with the full size image.

In every government on earth is some trace of human weakness, some germ of corruption and degeneracy, which cunning will discover, and wickedness insensibly open, cultivate and improve.
